The Artist's perception of the three Māori symbols used in the painting:

- Hei-tiki = Wishing the Kākā to have more chicks to increase their population.

- Huia feather = Wishing there to be a more peaceful relationship between Humans and birds - particularly endangered birds.

- Korowai (Cloak) = “He rangatira kōhungahunga”, a fledgling Chief of Kākā.

"Visual Art activates the human mind. It provokes thought, emotion, inspiration and creativity.  It provides an avenue for political, social and cultural commentary.

It breaks language, gender and age barriers, and remains one of the most unregulated forms of artistic expression.

Encourage and embrace that freedom".  Eyeball Kicks
