The Artist's perception of the three Māori symbols used in the painting: Hei-tiki = Wishing the Kākā to have more chicks to increase their population. Huia feather = Wishing there to be a more peaceful relationship between Humans and birds - particularly endangered birds. Korowai (Cloak) = “He rangatira kōhungahunga”, a fledgling Chief of Kākā.
